A note about "Weather from Our Dock"

The transmission of this weather data depends on the linking of a network of Amateur Radio Stations (HAM Radio) that are all run by Amateur Radio volunteers (HAMS).  For example, KB4VCA is a volunteer Amateur Radio Station run by Ernie..

We put our weather data on this Net exactly every 6 minutes and hope that it will get to the Weather Net Site after it is retransmitted 5 or 6 times.  In the past, we have followed this data and found that it often goes to Atlanta, GA, on its way to the final destination in Huntsville, AL, and seldom on the same path.

There are many other amateur users (HAMS) on the same network and our messages are not very high priority.  We have no control over what happens after we transmit our data.  Many times you will notice a delay between the time stamps (the time when the data is received) of several hundred minutes.  This generally happens when many other HAMS are on the net, such as on the weekends.  When HAM traffic is low, such as late at night, our data is usually received and stamped every 6 minutes as transmitted.

In the event that you want to know what is happening here weather-wise and the reports on the net are late, please feel free to call us at the number on our website "Contact Us" page.  If we are near our weather readout, we can give you up to the minute information from there.  That data is never more than one minute old.
